ISB&M Pune campus Hosts Faculty Development Program with Keynote Speech by Professor Ramadhar Singh

The International School of Business and Media (ISB&M) Pune hosted a six days Faculty Development Program from 12th to 17th June, 2023, “Develop Your Passion and Inner Drive to be Scholar: Take the first steps”. The program was designed for scholars, researchers and Professors to get them to learn to publish in scholarly publications of high repute. ISB&M invited country’s best scholars who are highly acclaimed and with publications in A grade journals from top institutes. The expert speakers included, Dr. Sandeep Krishnamurthy, Dean at University of Washington (Bothell) School of Business; S Srinivasan Faculty IIT Madras, Prof. Chandra Sekhar Mishra Faculty Member, VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur, esteemed Prof. Shivganesh Bhargava of IIT Bombay, Prof. Abrahm Cyril faculty IIT Guwahati, Dr. Parama Barai Asst Prof., VGSOM (Finance Area), IIT Kharagpur, Prof, Pitabas Mohanty Finance Professor, X L R I, Jamshedpur, Prof Ranjan Das, PhD [IIM Ahmedabad], Chairperson of The Strategy Academy and The Next Ideation and faculty IIT Calcutta, Professor of Operations Management at IIM Bangalore, Member of the Board of Governors, and Founder Vice Chancellor of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, Prof. Mahadevan Dr. Dr. Umamaheswararao Jada, faculty NIT Durgapur along with inhouse faculties Mr.Arun Joshi Assistant professor OB &HR, Mr Sudipt Kumar Ph.D IIT Kharagpur faculty OB&HR,  Dr. Madan Survase and Dr. S. Bera; Associate Professor Economics at ISB&M Pune and Kolkata and Chairperson Academic ISB&M Pune campus Mr. Naveen Verma and saw attendance of 50% Pune institutions who are research scholars, faculty members and business professionals.

 

The participants list was from diverse academic institutions like York University, Canada; Symbiosis Institute across Pune, NICMAR university, Indira Institute of Management PGDM, Balaji Institute of International Business (BIIB), International Institute Of Management Studies (IIMS), International School Of Management And Research (ISMR), Ramachandran International Institute of Management (RIIM), Arihant Institute of Business Management, MIT-WPU, ISMS Sankalp Business School, Pune Business school, IMDR Institute of Management Development and Research, Akemi Business School, MIMA, Amity Global Business School, Institute of Business Management & Research, Saibalaji International Institute Of Management Sciences, Lexicon Management Institute of Leadership and Excellence (Lexicon MILE), IBS Pune, Indira School of Business Studies (ISBS), Department of Management Science (PUMBA), and Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, to name a few. The program consisted of various sessions from start to publishing final research, such as Literature Review and Identifying Research Gap, Action Plan to Put Your Thoughts into Action, Researching Step-by-step, Conceptual Modeling and Hypothesis Development, Questionnaire Design and Data Collection Methods. Parallel sessions were also provided on Understanding Basics of Statistical Analysis, Data Analysis using SPSS and SmartPLS.

 

Participant and assistant professor from RIIM Pune, commented that the program helped her to remove all fears related to writing research, methods in analysing data and publishing issues in eminent journals. Another participant and faculty at Arihant Institute of Business Management commented, “ I don’t know how to thank ISB&M for this high standard faculty development program”. Another research assistant participant from National Forensic Science said that the Faculty development was well organised and well structured in the best possible way, the program gave me an opportunity to converse with distinguished speakers in the field of research. Mr. Arun Joshi, faculty OB/HR ISB&M, Nande  and   key organiser of the event commented, “The objective of FDP was to identify and prioritise research areas that have the potential to create value by contributing to both academic theory building and practical application in the industry. and I believe with a well planned FDP we have attained our objective”.

 

The FDP featured a keynote speech by the distinguished Professor Ramadhar Singh, PhD in experimental social psychology from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA (1973), had earlier served as a faculty member at Patna University (1968-1973), Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (1973-79), and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (1979-1988). He moved to Singapore in 1988 and retired as a Professor of Psychology from the National University of Singapore in 2010. He spent his sabbaticals at the University of Rochester, New York, USA and the University of Oxford, UK  (2003-04) and at Purdue University, Indiana, USA (2008). He is the first Fellow of the Singapore Psychology Society (1992) and the first Professor of Psychology in Singapore. During 2010-16, he was also the first Distinguished Professor of Management at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. He has been a Distinguished University Professor at Ahmedabad University since July 6, 2016.

 

During his keynote address, Prof. Ramadhir Singh discussed the plight, meaning, and "correct paradigms'' of research. He emphasised the importance of high-quality research in academic institutions and highlighted the worrying state of most doctoral dissertations and research papers. Prof. Singh advocated for paradigmatic research on causal relations or individual differences, and recommended experimental research or personality traits for behavioural and social scientists. He also spoke about the National Education Policy and its impact on research in India and encouraged staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the field. He emphasised the need for short-term and long-term goals, scientific methods, and global recognition for producing high-quality work. In conclusion, he encouraged everyone to continue exploring research and making a meaningful impact on knowledge.
