My first few days of being a PGDM student @ ISB&M

A Media classroom initiative by 2022-24 batch

“Describing the first days at ISB&M is like describing the first love at sight, the most memorable to say the least.”

“ No matter what and where we all will be in life, when we look back, these first days at ISB&M will be cherished forever.”

“The greatest impact the Orientation Program at ISB&M had on me was introducing my socialization skills to myself. I realized I have the quality of networking with people at great level, I so look forward to learning more at ISB&M”

“PGDM” Ever since I got to know this term, I have always been advised ‘it’s not going to be easy.’ I liked the first few days of the orientation programme, the stress of waking up early every morning, attending guest lectures, zumba and having various activities. It was way harder than I could ever imagine, but at the end of the week things fell in place and I understood what's expected out of a PGDM student here. But amidst all this, I have seen a completely different version of myself. I remember our president Dr. Pramod Kumar’s addressal, where he disowned the social norms and told us to live our life on our own terms. I vaguely remember a sentence which goes like, “you don’t need to be friends with everyone in order to succeed, you just need to be friendly. That really got my attention. The culture and vision of this institute is different and the OP helped me understand it. Manifesting a beautiful yet memorable life ahead at ISB&M.”

“Well the journey started with corporate dinners where eminent CEOs, VPs and high profile executives from international corporate houses were invited to address us and share their story of business with us. But the real journey started after three to four days, guest talks, workshops, sessions, games, dance what not! We actually underwent a complete transformation from Day 1 and by the time we entered the second week of being at ISB&M, we knew we belonged here.”

“Stepping into ISB&M was an electrifying experience for me, especially because I come from an arts background and know nothing about Supply Chain or Finance or Economics and so forth. So imagine my surprise when I got into trouble not because of numbers but wearing the wrong informal pants :) The various sessions at the OP taught me that small details matter in the corporate culture and that learning itself was a game changer. I am thankful to the OP and to ISB&M for introducing me to people who make living away from home easier and my fear of numbers smaller.”

“When I was leaving Lucknow, I was having mixed feelings about leaving a place where I have lived for twenty years of my life. I was anxious at the thought of leaving and especially of making new friends because for the longest time I had just two friends, that even after I was labeled an extrovert! But at the same time I was eager to leave Lucknow to start afresh and not feel stuck at one place. So when I came here I was exposed to a whole new experience and I wholeheartedly acknowledge the interactive sessions of the OP that I learned so much about people around me. Yes, I finally found new friends, shifted my room twice, blended in the new environment and had a blast the first week our classes started. I found a new place worth living. Cheers to the new beginning!!”

“On 18th June 2022, I started a new phase of my life. As I entered the gate of ISB&M in a cab, on the way I saw my batchmates, their parents all over the premises of the institute, some looking for the canteen, while some searching the hostels, and few others looking for the registration desk. The scene was totally different at the Corporate dinner held on 20th June where we spoke to our faculties, a few alums and got to know our batchmates. With the start of the Orientation Programme, began a new level of knowing the institute’s culture, it was stressful yet very exciting. We heard the best of the bests from the corporate sessions along with a few insightful sessions undertaken by great Marketing, HR and Finance faculties here. The alumni meet was a good experience and cultural night was the sparkle of the entire programme, I enjoyed it to the fullest.”

“At ISB&M I experienced a few of my ‘firsts’. For the first time I stayed in a hostel room, for the first time I walked the ramp, which was terrifying at first but unique at the same time. The first time I made new friends out of my hometown and met seniors who motivated us throughout the OP. We got to know the most exciting line that defines every other day here,, “ISB&M never sleeps”.

“It was really motivating to hear the experiences of the global leaders here at ISB&M’s orientation programme. Every passing day here since the OP has taught me something new and positive, I have noticed that my personality has been growing and so has my mindset. I feel ISB&M was the best decision I had made for myself.”

“It has been the most six rigorous, hectic and enjoyable days of my life. The Orientation Programme taught me that hard work and exertion is followed by fun and frolic at ISB&M. The best thing about ISB&M is the openness and corporate value driven culture, and I feel all the top colleges of India have this friendly ambience.

“The OP taught all of us to come out of shell and we learned that in every sessions, to interact and be recognised”

“ The words of one of the guest lecture that I heard stayed with me forever, that of Mr. Sahil Nayyar of KPMG who inspired the entire auditorium with his childhood story. I look forward to the same, of making good acquaintances, of being connected with each other even after we leave this college. I would like to share that , the story has just begun for each one of us. Let's live it to the fullest.”

“ The guest talks of the OP were very motivating for me. I heard the experiences of top leaders of companies who countered so many obstacles, especially that of personality development, for instance shyness, low confidence, fear of facing the public and so on. After listening to their experiences I was positive about eventually overcoming my personality obstacles through the PGDM programme here and being amongst the top leaders of the world one day.”
